COVID-19 and Vitamin D

In a recent article on Medical Express, a research team from Northwestern University reported to find a possible correlation between COVID-19 mortality and Vitamin D deficiency. When analyzing data from hospitals around the world, researchers found unexplained differences in COVID-19 mortality rates from country to country. While some hypothesize the differences may be due to healthcare or age distribution, Dr. Vadim Backman, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern, and his team hypothesize that Vitamin D deficiency may play a factor. Data shows that countries with high COVID-19 mortality rates, such as Italy and Spain, have lower levels of Vitamin D compared to the countries that were not as severely affected.
